Hand and wrist injuries can happen for a variety of reasons and in some cases, the symptoms can be quite disabling.

If you have suffered a hand injury and would like to make a hand injury claim, it is important that you seek medical attention from your GP or visit another medical establishment to have your injury checked by a medical professional.

You are eligible to make a claim if you have suffered the injury within the last three years due to someone else's negligence.

How much compensation will I receive?

Medical evidence is one of the most important aspects of your hand or wrist injury claim, but you should also try to provide as much evidence as you can. For example:

  • Photographic evidence of your injury.
  • Any photographic evidence that was taken at the scene of the accident.
  • Witness statements.
  • Your doctor's contact name and address, or any other contact details of any other medical establishment you have visited, will all contribute towards proving negligence against the other party.

How to make a hand injury claim

To be eligible to claim for compensation, first of all your solicitor will need to establish the following:

  • The extent of the injuries you have suffered.
  • The medical treatment you have received and the prognosis for recovery and whether you will experience any ongoing symptoms.
  • If you have any pre-existing health issues that may have been affected by the accident.
  • The effect the accident has had on your day-to-day lifestyle and whether you will require any further medical treatment to help you recover from your injury.

This part of the compensation process is known as 'general damages'. General damages compensate you for the pain and suffering the injury has caused you and how it has affected your life. The length of time expected to recover from your injury will also be taken into consideration. Severe injuries will attract a high compensation award for general damages.

Your solicitor may want to arrange an appointment for you to visit a medical consultant in your local area and at a time that is convenient for you. This appointment usually lasts up to half an hour. Once your injury has been assessed, the consultant will then send the medical report to your solicitor. You too will receive a copy of the medical report to approve.

'Special damages' is also another important factor of the compensation process that your solicitor will discuss with you. 'Special damages' is the compensation that is awarded to you for any financial loss or other expenses you have suffered as a result of your injury. For example, if you have had to take time off work due to your injury, you may be entitled to financial loss. This will be accessed and discussed with you by your solicitor to establish how much compensation you may be entitled to claim.

A settlement agreement will then be discussed between you and your solicitor and proceedings will then commence.

If the third party admits liability for your injury, you will receive 100% compensation.

An early settlement may be offered to you, but this is not always the best option to consider.

At PHC Law, we are committed to recovering the maximum amount of compensation that you are entitled to. If an early settlement is offered, your solicitor may advise you to ensure that we compensate you fully for the compensation you deserve.

Offering a No Win No Fee service means that you will not have to pay a penny for legal representation, win or lose. There are no hidden costs or deductions and you will receive 100% compensation once your claim has been settled.
