PHC Law Settles £41,000 Compensation for Taxi Car Crash Victim

After a two year battle with the Defendants insurers, PHC Law personal injury solicitors has successfully recovered £41,000 compensation for a gentlemen who suffered significant crushing injuries to the hand, following a traumatic ordeal involving a lorry.

On 2nd September 2009, the Claimant was taking a taxi to his place of work. The taxi parked in a parking bay at the side of the road whilst the Claimant went to get a newspaper. On returning, the Claimant was getting into the back of the taxi with his hand on the door when the Defendants lorry set off. This caused the trailer to veer into the parking bay, hitting the Claimant’s right hand and causing crushing injuries.

Medical evidence was obtained from a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon that confirmed the Claimant suffered fractures to two fingers, together with lacerations.
Due to the extent of his injuries, the Claimant was signed off work for a period of up to six weeks and was compensated for the financial losses he incurred.
Mr John Cooper, senior consultant of PHC Law who handled the case said: “This has been an horrific experience for my client who has been left traumatised by the circumstances of the accident and extremely frustrated by how his life has become restricted because of his injuries.”

He added: “Unfortunately accidents happen unexpectedly and can cause us a lot of stress taking time to recover and the financial loss people face who have needed to have taken time off work, or reduced pay for those who have returned to work and have been given lighter duties. After various negotiations between Mr Cooper and the Defendants insurers, the Claimant accepted settlement in the total sum of £41,000 without any deductions.
